Background
Qadir was once a promising diplomat from Zarhalem, sent to Estoria to handle trade tensions, courtly favors and the thousand small insults that pass between rich men before they become wars. He was clever, polished and patient enough to survive rooms full of liars. Then something went wrong. The official story involves mishandled negotiations, improper gifts and an insult to the wrong family. The unofficial versions are more interesting, and Qadir never confirms any of them. Stripped of formal position but not of contacts, he began doing privately what he once did officially: arranging meetings, smoothing scandals, carrying delicate words and making problems disappear before anyone important had to admit they existed.
He is the one who gathered the others. Not because he trusted them at first, but because each solved a problem he could not solve alone. He knows how to enter noble houses, speak to ambassadors, read a pause in a conversation and recognize when a servant has heard too much. He dresses well, speaks softly and treats almost every situation as a negotiation, even when knives are already out.
