Lizardmen
I wanted true tank knights. Heroica does not have medieval knight style armor, but I wanted an exception. The Lizardmen is that exception. Heavily armored, on top of their own tough scales. Fearless in battle, honor above all. Basically, the knights of the round table, but lizards.
However, I wanted an interesting place for women as well. While men fight, women govern. The men chose which woman to follow based on honor, and if she behaves dishonorably, he will just walk away and find a more worthy ruler.
This felt interesting, but I wanted them somehow contained. This, I solved by making them cold-blooded, and only suited for the desert, then placing them in a secluded corner in the Great desert.
