Giants
I didn't want to make giants hostile, as that would have turned them into a monster, and, as you might have noticed, Heroica is not about fighting monsters. So, I went with gentle, friendly giants.
From there, it felt natural to team them up with halflings, being like-minded folks, with their sizes complementing each other.
