Necropolis

Necropolis started with the ruin city of Jerash, Jordan. A place of colonnades, theatres, temples, streets, shops. I liked the idea of a huge ruin city, without any explanation.

However, I didn't want just an above ground dungeon. So, I came up with the idea of people disappearing if they stayed during night.

From there, I thought that no sane person would hunt for treasure once they needed to go deep into the city. However, slaves have no choice, and the Empire has plenty of slaves and don't mind a certain amount of waste. So, I placed the city in the Empire.

I like things to have actual world effects. I thought: "What if the treasures from Necropolis are the source of the initial wealth and power of the Empire?" Then, it makes sense that, as the source dried up, they started their expansionist spree to get new sources of wealth.

Necropolis is a mystery in the game, but not a mystery meant to be solved. So, I decided to not provide any explanation. It is what it is.
