This one was a hard one to create. I had a space on the map, I knew I was going to put elves there, but I didn't just want ordinary boring elves.
So, I thought, what could go wrong?
Well, let's say they honor their dead by burying them at a spirit tree. That's seems like a very elven thing to do. Then, the spirit is bound to that tree, so that they can talk to their dead friends and relatives. That also seems very much an elven thing to do.
What happens if they do that for a long time, and spirits are forgotten and lonely and calls for attentions? Well, that becomes pure insanity. But, they are locked into this tradition, and stopping it would mean that they "kill" their loved ones.
So, we have a nation of people who are constantly hearing ghosts, constantly have voices in their head. That's enough to drive most people mad.
Yep, that worked, and so it went.
