A hidden world, without external threats, long lives, able to do what they want. So, they spend ages doing things which, in the grand scheme of things, aren't important. They do stuff, but nothing ever gets done. They spend centuries perfecting a poem, but nothing really comes out of it.
To be honest, I don't know where the inspiration came from. The plateau itself comes from a highland plateau in South America, but I don't know where the apathic decadence comes from. Perhaps my only inability to get this game world done, as the notes for it started 25 years ago...
